Snapshots of Progress in Magwi County

From October to November 2024, Global Aim South Sudan (GASS) teams—joined by FAO’s Torit head, Mr. Victor—visited farmer, fisherfolk, and dairy groups across Nimule, Jelei, Agoro Maji, and Magwi to monitor activities, deliver hands-on training, and strengthen livelihoods.

What happened on the ground

  • Milk marketing & quality control: Business inspection with the Good Luck Milk Marketing group in Motoyo East (Nimule Central Boma), plus practical coaching on pricing and hygiene. A veterinary officer demonstrated cost-price calculations and proper use of lactometers.
  • Climate-smart fisheries: Fisherfolk production groups practiced smoking, salting, and sun-drying to reduce post-harvest losses and improve incomes.
  • Better crops & seed: GAP (good agronomic practices) training during cowpea line planting with Nyiko Aco Seed Production & Marketing in BIO 1 village, Jelei Boma (17 Oct 2024), and seed-production GAPs in Agoro Maji Boma (4 Nov 2024).
  • Demonstration plots at work: Rac Koko farmers planted and checked crops at Magwi Boma demo sites; Aridiku and Akwedriku cowpea fields were inspected with group leaders.
  • Coordination & accountability: The PIU/CCT met at the GASS office (26 Nov 2024) to align on delivery; teams also collected PHCU data for the nutrition voucher scheme.

These field moments show practical skills taking root—from fair pricing and quality milk to resilient crops and preserved fish—moving families in Magwi County closer to stable, dignified livelihoods.
