Background
Global Aim South Sudan (GASS), with funding support from FAO–UN, is implementing the GRACE Project in Juba County to strengthen food security, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods. As part of this initiative, we are seeking a qualified and motivated Cooperative Project Officer to support the formation, registration, and capacity building of producer groups and cooperatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, form, and register producer groups, and facilitate their transition into cooperatives.
- Conduct capacity needs assessments of producer groups and cooperatives.
- Train cooperatives on constitutions and by-laws, financial management, business models, and Farming as a Business (FaaB).
- Organize and strengthen Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), build their capacity in governance, financial literacy, and business development, and link them with financial institutions.
- Identify and register women and youth groups, and provide training in leadership and decision-making.
- Identify and register local agro-dealers; conduct assessments of their inventories of climate-adapted inputs, tools, and equipment.
- Support producer groups to engage in value chain processes such as post-harvest handling, processing, packaging, safety, and standards (particularly for vegetables).
Qualifications & Experience
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Cooperative Management, Agribusiness, Economics, Rural Development, or related field (Master’s degree is an added advantage).
- A relevant Higher Diploma will also be accepted with a minimum of 4 years’ proven experience.
- Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience (or 4 years with a higher diploma) in cooperative development, livelihoods, or agricultural projects.
- Experience working within Juba County and good knowledge of its geography, communities, and local dynamics is essential.
- Proven expertise in group formation, registration, governance, and capacity building.
- Experience with VSLAs, women and youth economic empowerment, and agro-dealer ecosystems.
- Strong facilitation, training, and reporting skills.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic or local languages is an asset.
