2024/2025 Strategic Plan
Five priorities guide our work this year—boosting production, strengthening markets, building climate resilience, expanding extension services, and improving pest & disease management. Tap a card to see the actions.
Enhancing Sustainable Agricultural Production
- Expand training and deployment of agricultural extension workers in target program areas.
- Scale up ox-plough traction technology to increase cultivated land and enhance production.
- Establish and strengthen community-based seed multiplication initiatives to improve access to quality seeds.
- Promote horticulture development for vegetables and high-value crops in key production areas.
- Facilitate farmers’ cooperatives and associations to enhance collective bargaining and market access.
- Promote integrated soil fertility management (organic composting and crop rotation).
Strengthening Agri-Business and Market Development
- Train progressive farmers in agribusiness and value chain development to improve profitability.
- Support market-driven agricultural production for access to competitive pricing.
- Improve post-harvest handling and storage capacity to minimize food losses.
- Promote value addition and food processing to increase profitability and reduce raw crop sales.
- Establish processing hubs for maize milling, oilseed processing, and grain storage.
Enhancing Climate Resilience and Environmental Sustainability
- Expand drought-resistant and climate-smart agricultural practices.
- Strengthen early warning systems and climate information services for farmers.
- Increase afforestation and agroforestry initiatives to mitigate climate impacts.
- Scale up distribution of multipurpose tree seedlings to restore degraded land.
- Develop community-based adaptation strategies: rainwater harvesting and soil conservation.
Strengthening Agricultural Extension Services
- Enhance delivery via Farmer Field Schools (FFS) and mobile-based training.
- Introduce radio-based advisory programs to reach remote farmers.
- Increase training and capacity building for community-based extension workers.
- Establish demonstration farms for climate-smart agriculture and good agronomic practices.
Improving Pest and Disease Management
- Strengthen Fall Armyworm (FAW) prevention and management programs.
- Introduce integrated pest management (IPM), including biological control.
- Develop and promote locally adapted pest-resistant seed varieties.
